Over the weekend my son [Cordell] and I assembled all the frames and installed the crimp wire wax foundation. I also built two hive stands that we will be using to keep our bees 18″ off of the ground.
Fire ants are a huge problem in this part of Georgia, so we are going to utilize an “oil moat” method to keep the ants from finding our bees. This method involves placing each of the stand legs in a container with some vegetable oil in it so it creates a moat that the ants cannot cross.
Tomorrow is the big day. We get our 2 packages of Italian/Carniolian hybrid packages tomorrow evening. I may install one package tomorrow and the other on Tuesday depending on weather and such.
I’ll try to get some photos of the installation process and post them here as soon as I can.
